Relationships need to be established in the business world and individuals trust in Trump. Trump works with a team of advisors. Trump respects his advisors, however he uses his instinct as a constant guide. According to Trump, “Listen to others but never negate your own instincts” (Trump, McIver, p. 132). Trump also values knowledge and sharing his story as well as his lessons. One of the reasons Trump promoted the television series The Apprentice is due to the educational subtext of the show.
Trump stresses the importance of concentrating on the solution, not the problem. His coherence and ability to remain focused enables him to make decisions and solve problems. Trump believes individuals need to eliminate minor details that prolong the development of a solution. The Apprentice portrays Trump’s ability to operate in the business world. While viewing this show, one can see Trump’s focus and coherence in making decisions.

Trump had reached success through many endeavors. Throughout his life he had various turning points. Trump triumphed in the field of real estate beginning with the renovation of the Commodore Hotel into the Grand Hyatt. Thereafter, he established and owned numerous other properties. He seemed to be on an endless road of success.
Trump’s success, however, fell short in the early 1990’s. At that time Trump was faced with billions of dollars in loans including $975 million personally guaranteed debt (Trump, McIver, 2008 p. 2). According to Trump, his tremendous downfall should not have come as a surprise since he had always had a way of doing things “big.” Trump describes a change in his attitude as the turning point in his near-bankruptcy dilemma. Trump overcame this obstacle by maintaining a positive attitude, keeping momentum and, most importantly, focusing on the solution, not the problem. Trump states, that recovering from near bankruptcy had made him a better businessman and entrepreneur (Trump, McIver, 2008 p. 2). Currently, Trump is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for this financial turnaround.

Donald John Trump, a native of New York, was born June 14, 1946. Donald Trump graduated from college in 1968. He attended Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where he earned a Bachelor of Science in economics. Post graduation, Trump worked for his father’s company, The Trump Organization. Trump met success at a young age thriving in the real-estate business.
Currently, Trump is one of the most successful men in America. Trump has established himself as financial leader, author, and celebrity of the television show The Apprentice. Trump is most commonly known for his properties. Among his many properties include his famous Atlantic City and Las Vegas casinos. Some of Donald Trump’s best selling books are The Art of the Deal, Think Big and Kick Ass in Business and Life, How to Get Rich, and my personal recommendation, Trump Never Give Up.
I am fascinated with Trump due to his demeanor, philosophies, success, ability to overcome obstacles, and his brilliance. Trump’s “think big” philosophy is very motivational. Who else can establish Trump Plaza, Taj Mahal, and Trump Towers, to name a few? Throughout his life, Trump had the ability to recognize opportunity amidst many tribulations. According to Trump, “Every challenge or obstacle you come up against is simply an opportunity in disguise” (Trump, McIver, 2008 p. 164). There is much to be learned from the man behind the saying, “You’re fired.” Trump is a true leader conveying many important messages to the public.
